Wittich Cabinetmakers: The Bächle Bridge in Freiburg
The Wittich joinery has developed a unique toy with local roots: the Freiburg Bächle Bridge. Master joiner Johannes Wittich drew inspiration from Freiburg’s famous Bächle and created an innovative product that stimulates the imagination and encourages play.
The patented invention consists of wedge-shaped blocks strung on a cord. This simple yet ingenious design makes it possible to span almost 30 different Bächle widths. The individual blocks are simply shaped into an arch and clamped between the banks. Any spare pieces remain on the string and won’t get lost.
The Freiburg Bächle Bridge is more than just a toy; it is a tangible piece of Freiburg’s culture. With this idea, the Wittich joinery workshop demonstrates that innovative products can also be created within traditional craftsmanship.
