The order
The mission of the Freiburg Innovation Alliance Foundation was specifically expanded in 2024: In addition to the original focus on health and life sciences ("BioMed"), the foundation is now also involved in the areas of sustainability & resilience as well as digitalisation, artificial intelligence & robotics.
In this way, the foundation is creating the basis for addressing a broad and forward-looking range of topics to strengthen Freiburg as a business location and drive them forward in the long term.
The foundation is also the sponsor of BioTechPark Freiburg, which has provided flexible office and laboratory space for start-ups and young companies since its opening in 1998 and following expansions in 2001, 2016 and most recently in 2019.
Our claim
The Freiburg Innovation Alliance pursues the goal of networking relevant institutions from science and industry in the region, pooling existing resources in a targeted manner and strengthening knowledge and technology transfer in the long term.
These intensive areas are represented by a total of twelve representatives.
Carrier & Management
The administration and office of the Freiburg Innovation Alliance Foundation are located at the municipal company Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe (FWTM)
This means that the tasks and activities of the foundation are closely linked to the city's promotion of business, innovation and technology for the and technology promotion for Freiburg as a centre of business and science and optimally harmonised with each other.

Our memberships
The BVIZ is the Federal Association of German Innovation, Technology and Start-up Centres. It was founded in 1988 to promote technology transfer, innovation and the development of start-ups. The association represents the interests of its 152 members, which represent 154 innovation centres nationwide, vis-à-vis politics and business. Its main tasks are the expansion of networks and the exchange of experience between the centres.
The Association of Business Incubators in Baden-Württemberg represents over 1,000 young companies from all regions. To date, its members have supported over 2,000 start-ups that have created more than 20,000 jobs. The association acts as a cooperation partner, arranges networks and advises on the establishment of new centres. It supports the exchange of know-how, promotes high technology and prepares centre managers for the future in order to enable successful start-ups.
The BioParks Working Group (AG-BioParks) is an association of 24 German biotechnology centres. Since 2005, it has focussed on the specific challenges of life science companies, such as the planning of laboratory space, strategic consulting and financing. The AG shows how centres can support companies from the foundation to their own building and stay up to date in areas such as construction, safety and sustainability.
BVIZ is the Federal Association of German Innovation, Technology and Start-up Centres, founded in 1988. With over 150 members, it promotes technology transfer and innovation. It maintains a broad network between centres, companies, banks and politics to support the development of start-ups.
BioValley Deutschland is a non-profit communication network for biotech and life science companies in the tri-national region around Freiburg, Basel and Strasbourg. As one of the leading biotech clusters in Europe, BioValley promotes innovation and connects regional players. The network offers its members a platform for exchange, organises lectures and events and fosters cooperation with universities and research institutions in the region.
